Protecting a Princess: Our Role at the RDA National Championships

Safeguarding Her Royal Highness Princess Anne

The Shakespeare Patrol Unit was tasked with the extraordinary responsibility of safeguarding Her Royal Highness Princess Anne during her visit to the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Championships. We embraced this role with a mix of pride, anticipation, and utter professionalism.

Our unit, typically securing businesses throughout Worcestershire, found itself thrust into the spotlight of royal security. The transition was swift but smooth, thanks to our officers’ rigorous training and expertise. We were acutely aware of the importance of our role. Protecting a member of the Royal Family is no ordinary job. It demands meticulous planning, unwavering focus, and a deep understanding of potential threats.

The RDA National Championships provided a unique setting for our operations. A celebration of human spirit and equine skill, the event was filled with joy, enthusiasm, and inevitably, complex security challenges. Our officers had to blend seamlessly into the crowd while maintaining a constant watch over the Princess. It was a delicate balance requiring a high level of discretion and tactical awareness.

From the moment Princess Anne arrived, our unit was on high alert. We monitored every move, every interaction. Our officers were strategically positioned throughout the venue, their eyes constantly scanning the crowd, their ears attuned to any unusual noises. The camaraderie and resilience of the RDA community added an extra layer of complexity to our duties. We had to ensure the Princess’s safety without disrupting the event’s spirit.

As the day ended and Princess Anne departed, a sense of satisfaction washed over the unit. We had fulfilled our duty, protecting a beloved member of the Royal Family while allowing the magic of the RDA Championships to unfold. It was a privilege and an honour to be part of such a momentous occasion.
